From Training to the Workplace: Our Summer Jobs Programme with UK Youth
Building skills, confidence and workplace experience through a summer of paid opportunities.
This summer, Spiral Skills was proud to support young people taking part in the UK Youth Summer Jobs Programme, helping them prepare for the workplace before moving into paid placements across a range of organisations.
The Summer Jobs Programme combines a week of employment preparation with five weeks of paid work experience, giving young people the opportunity to develop their employability skills while gaining meaningful experience in a real working environment.
Putting their skills into practice
Following their week at Spiral Skills, the young people moved into their summer placements, where they were able to put what they had learned into practice and gain first-hand experience of the workplace.
The wider Summer Jobs Programme is designed to ensure young people are supported throughout this journey, with local delivery partners providing both preparation and ongoing support during placements.
For one 16-year-old participant, the experience helped them quickly settle into their new environment:
Another young person reflected on how the experience had helped prepare them for the future:
Milyna’s Summer Jobs journey
One of the young people who took part was Milyna, who documented her experience and created a roundup of her Summer Jobs placement.
As part of her summer, Milyna gained experience with Dimz. Inc Academy, as well as spending time with Kalos Creates. Her experience gave her the chance to work across different environments, meet professionals and get involved in creative opportunities while building her understanding of the world of work.
Rather than us telling you about her experience, we’ll let Milyna show you herself.
More than a summer job
Programmes like Summer Jobs are about more than simply adding work experience to a CV. They give young people the opportunity to experience professional environments, build confidence, develop new skills and better understand what they may want from their future.
We’re proud to have played a part in supporting young people this summer and grateful to the employers and organisations who provided opportunities for them to learn, contribute and grow.
A huge well done to every young person who completed their training and stepped into their placement this summer, and a big thank you to UK Youth and all of the employers and partners who helped make these opportunities possible.
