help empower young futures this google giving season
Chair of Spiral Skills Trustees, Thomas Harwell
Our mission at Spiral Skills is to create a more inclusive society where every young person has the opportunity to develop essential skills and mindsets, access opportunities, and feel empowered to thrive.
Spiral Skills is an inclusive youth education to employment charity based in Brixton, supporting 1000 underserved young people a year. This giving season, we are campaigning to #EmpowerFutures, raising funds to expand our services to support young people with essential skills, well-being support, and save space to thrive.
Mental Health & Wellbeing: help Address a Growing Crisis
44% of underserved young people are experiencing severe psychological distress, with 75% unable to access the support they need (UCL, Trust for London). The COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened mental health challenges, leaving many feeling isolated and without a support network.
Our programmes focus on emotional and mental well-being, providing young people with access to one-to-one mentoring, and community connections. We help young people improve their mental health while preparing them for employment and education.
Break the Cycle of Exclusion: help Empower Young People
In 2022/23, over 9,000 students were permanently excluded from school, with 44% more exclusions than the previous year. These young people—often from underserved backgrounds—face significant barriers to future employment and education (UK Gov).
We provide skills development and employment pathways for young people excluded from traditional education. By offering personalised support and holistic programs, we equip young people with the tools they need to break the cycle of exclusion.
support a Safe Space to Build Brighter Futures
Since 2010, £1.1 billion has been cut from youth services, resulting in the closure of over 760 youth centers. This has left many young people without safe spaces to learn, grow, or simply be themselves (Youth Endowment Fund).
We’re a member of The Brixton Factory, a safe, trauma-informed space designed by young people, for young people. This hub will provide mental health support, digital skills training, and entrepreneurial opportunities—all in a space that fosters community and growth.
Spiral’s new office will serve as a safe, inclusive environment where young people can thrive.
